Why are lip fillers so popular? Bradford

Dermal fillers to enhance, augment, re-balance and hydrate the lips are a very popular treatment here at Jayne Taylor Aesthetics in Bradford and many of our patients who have this treatment, have been coming to us for years, due to the fabulous results we achieve in our safe, clinical environment.

Are lip fillers safe?

Lip fillers are so popular, that even non-medics are delving in to this practice (as an unregulated treatment, this is actually possible, but can offer devastating results) so it’s really important to choose a medic to carry out this treatment for you.

At Jayne Taylor Aesthetics, we want to bring the ultimate in cosmetic medical treatments, but in the safest way possible, and this is why you will only be treated by medically qualified practitioners, who are fully-trained in the art of dermal fillers.

For many of us, having an injection of a substance into our faces can be a daunting prospect, so we have tried to put together a list of what to expect, if you are considering lip fillers, but were too shy to ask!

What to expect before you have lip fillers

During a no obligation, initial consultation at jayne Taylor Aesthetics in Bradford, your lips will be assessed considering their shape and the proportion to the rest of your facial anatomy. This allows us to recommend the most suitable product and dosage that best suits your individual needs and requirements.

Some patients like a dramatic effect, some just a whisper of enhancement. We take this into consideration, but will also air on the side of caution for your first treatment (we would only offer a maximum of 1ml of product per treatment and no more), to ensure your safety and satisfaction with results.

How do lip fillers feel?

Having dermal fillers in the lips can feel a little odd the first time, so we would never put too much filler in (ever) so as to make it look or feel unusual or odd. We will advise you on the best course of action for the results you are wanting to achieve but will always stay within safe parameters. Overfilling the lips with dermal fillers of any kind could lead to a migration of the product – something we do not wish for here at Jayne Taylor Aesthetics.

Can lip fillers go wrong?

We will also advise you on the risks of having dermal fillers for the lips. Although extremely rare, it is our duty to inform you of these risks. Should a blood vessel or vein be injected, there can be a risk of tissue necrosis.

Signs to look out for are whiteness in the injection area, numbness, mottled skin colour and sluggish capillary refill when applying pressure to the area. At Jayne Taylor Aesthetics, you can be reassured that our medically-trained staff have the capability to treat such conditions and stock emergency drugs which can dissolve fillers – as we are highly-experienced in the application of dermal fillers and hold in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy, the chances of this happening are extremely rare.

Your first lip filler treatment

Providing that your medical history does not show any contraindications as to why you may not be able to have lip fillers we can consult and offer treatment on the same day. However, we would never pressurise you to have proceed will suggest a period of decision making on your part, if we feel you are not quite sure. We want to keep you as a valued patient for years to come, so will always respect your decision and whether you need some more time to make one.

Do lip fillers hurt?

If you’re wondering if lip fillers hurt, the general answer is ‘no’. As we can apply a topical anaesthetic prior to injection. Most lip fillers now contain an anaesthetic called Lidocaine, so although there may be some sensation, it should not be painful.
What to expect after lip fillers

After you have had your lip filler treatment, you can return to your daily activities, such as eating, drinking and returning to work, adhering to any aftercare instructions offered to you.
Your lips might feel numb and tingly, with a dull ache, for 2 to 3 days. There may also be some swelling and bruising. This is normal and will settle. If they are painful and show any unusual signs such as those of necrosis or throbbing pains, we ask that you let us know immediately so we can rectify any rare side-effects. For the relief of normal side-effects, we recommend paracetamol and anti-histamines as well as a cool compress. Ibuprofen on the other hand can increase the risk of bruising, so this is not recommended.

After your treatment and for up to 2 weeks, your lips may feel a little hard and lumpy. This will settle once the product has integrated into the skin tissues and settled.

Your initial results can be seen straight away, however, allow at least 2 weeks for any swelling, bruising, asymmetry or lumps in the lips to disperse, before returning to the clinic for a post-procedure assessment.
