What is LED Light Therapy?

NASA (The National Aeronautics and Space Administration) is an independent US agency responsible for their space programme and space research. NASA is also responsible for introducing the medical and aesthetic world to LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting.

The way we use LED lighting today originated as a side effect of red and blue lighting being used to support the growth of plants in space but it was noticed by the researchers, working on the project, that when they used LED lighting, any cuts’ grazes or sores to their hands healed so much quicker! This started the interest in the use of LED lighting within the medical field. Here at Jayne Taylor Aesthetics, we take evidence-based practice and research very seriously. We want only the best treatments for our patients and we believe that Celluma Light Therapy is the best.

Celluma works when particles of light (photons) are absorbed by our skin cells and then converted into energy that then wakes up tired or damaged cells. This in turn helps the cells to improve their performance, regenerating and rejuvenating the look of our skin.

Here in Bradford, we definitely don’t use Celluma light therapy for growing plants but we do use Celluma to support the treatment of a number of skin issues that we see every day. If you have read our treatment page, you will already be aware of the advantages of light therapy. The main ones are that it is non-invasive, it is clinically proven (NASA), it is relaxing and painless, it can be used on every type of skin (including sensitive skin) and there is absolutely no downtime at all. Sounds great, doesn’t it?
How do we use Celluma light therapy at Jayne Taylor Aesthetics? It is predominantly facial rejuvenation and for the treatment of Acne and Rosacea. That said, the body can benefit too, for conditions such as aching muscles and strains, to aid wound healing, and reduce areas of inflammation. If you have any specific questions or concerns regarding your skin, please speak to your therapist, Celluma may be the perfect treatment for it.

But how does it work?

It Rejuvenates the skin by increasing collagen and elastin production which in turn reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

It treats Acne by drying and reducing the bacteria that cause the condition and by reducing inflammation and improving wound healing.

It improves Rosacea by calming redness and reducing any inflammation.

One of the beauties of Celluma is that a number of skin issues can be treated at the same time reducing the number of visits to the clinic. Although we do love to see you, we also appreciate the importance of your time.

At a maximum of 30 minutes, Celluma can be booked as a “stand-alone” treatment and is wonderful on its own (be prepared to fall asleep) but it can also be beneficial as an “add-on” to other treatments as a treat. It’s perfect following a chemical peel, microneedling and any of your injectables. If however, you’re lucky enough to have great skin already, it’s perfect for skin maintenance.

Improvements are usually seen after only one or two treatments and we recommend that you have a course of 8 or 12 treatments over a period of 4 or 6 weeks. The more often you have a treatment the quicker you will see the results.

Speak to your nurse or therapist about starting Celluma today.
